If you were missing the Assassins brotherhood, we’ve got good news for you. An image leaked unveiling the next Assassin’s Creed game. Ubisoft has remained silent, but three independent sources have confirmed to Eurogamer that the image is real. And it’s looking sweet indeed, if you are into Egyptian stuff, that is.
The screenshot shows a warrior with a shield and a bow against a sunny, eastern environment. In the top left corner you can glimpse two missions: “Assassinate the Crocodile” and “Follow Shadya to Khenut’s villa”. Since Khenut was an Egyptian queen belonging to the Fifth Dynasty (2494 to 2345 BC), it’s possible that Assassin’s Creed Origins will unfold in that period of time.
What We Know About Assassin’s Creed Origins So Far
With the release of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, it was obvious that the formula was getting rusty. The hectic development cycle of one game per year was taking its toll on the franchise, not only in terms of quality but also with flagging sales. In response, Ubisoft decided to slow down and rethink one of their most successful franchises of all time.
However, leaks and rumors continued to swirl around the game. Kotaku’s sources announced back in April that Assassin’s Creed Empire, its rumored title, would take place in Egypt. Last week, WWG reported that it would not be called Assassin’s Creed Empire but Assassin’s Creed Origins. Moreover, and as the title implies, the game would be a prequel to the series. They even confirmed that the game would be ready by the end of this year for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
In terms of narrative and gameplay, Assassins’s Creed Origins may be more of an open world experience, revolving around two main characters, a man and a woman. If this is true, we would have more freedom as players and different character progression. One other source claimed it is “the biggest Assassin’s Creed” the company has ever created.
We’re only a few weeks away from E3, so it’s likely that Ubisoft will come forward and share some details about their next game, putting an end to these leaks with their official stamp.
