Ubisoft is getting ready to set sail, swab the poop deck, and so forth with the first trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, set for release later this year on both current and next-gen systems.
The trailer – which leaked online, was quickly removed, and is now back – showcases our new protagonist, Edward Kenway, who’s obviously related to that guy in Assassin’s Creed III. He’s spoken of in respectful-yet-fearsome tone by none other than Blackbeard, while we get to see Kenway generally being a badass in whatever he does: swimming, naval fighting, and bedding more than one woman at a time.
Kenway’s story happens at the dawn of the 18th century and picks up after he’s expelled from the British Royal Navy, leading him to take up piracy and face off against legendary pirates like Blackbeard and Charles Vane on an adventure throughout the West Indies.
While we don’t see any gameplay (at least, it doesn’t appear that way), Ubisoft has already confirmed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is coming this year to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the Wii U on October 29, 2013, while a PS4, PC, and “other next generation console” (think “next Xbox“) release is set for later. Check out the trailer above.
