Amazon Buys Double Helix

Just a few days ago, Double Helix released the next playable character, Orchid, for its Xbox One exclusive, Killer Instinct. What’s happened since? Oh, Amazon just bought them.Yes, you read right. The company that brought you one of the best ways to buy and enjoy digital media and other physical content has just purchased the Californian game studio, Double Helix. As for the reason why Amazon has done so, that news hasn’t surfaced just yet.

There have been rumors that Amazon is planning on releasing its own gaming console that runs on Android, like the Ouya. This joins a other news that spreads fire to a whole movement: phone- and tablet-makers making video game consoles.

Apple is also rumored to be designing a way for its Apple TV to play custom games and run applications, and with Sony having released its low-powered PS Vita TV, one has to wonder if the gaming industry is getting larger, or is it getting smaller?

For now, the facts show that Amazon now owns Double Helix, most likely due to Amazon’s keen interest in this space. What follows could change the gaming world forever.
