Activision’s Destiny Breaks Records Day One, Makes $500M in Sales

Activision has announced that it sold in more than $500 million of Destiny worldwide when it launched on Tuesday. It’s a huge win for Activision as they view Destiny as their next title in line to reach that golden billion-dollar plateau and join the ranks of Call of Duty and Skylanders. It’s important to note that the phrase “sold in” does not mean sold to consumers but sent to retailers and first-parties who distributed Destiny for Microsoft and Sony.

There has been no official word yet on the exact number of copies that were sold yesterday but it’s still a momentous accomplishment which makes Destiny “the biggest new franchise launch in our industry’s history and also the highest-selling day one digital console release in history” according to CEO of Activsion Publishing Eric Hershberg. It looks like Bungie has crafted yet another iconic franchise and we can’t wait to see it fully live up to the hype. Look for our review of Destiny in the coming weeks.
