The Movie Fanatics Commentary Podcast 05 | GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords

The Transformers crew returns for this much, much worse movie: GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords. Join myself, Ben, Jen, and all the other unfortunate souls who I was able to drag on as we watch one of the most carelessly put together movies I’ve seen.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Hannah-Barbera was going from bizarre to absolutely lazy. While their superhero shows were very corny, there was at least some thread of passion in them. GoBots, on the other hand, is a terrible toy commercial for undoubtedly terrible toys.

While GoBots is a terrible movie, there is some fun to be had. It’s absolutely absurd, with the worst character design this side of Michael Bay’s controversial robot designs. The names, too, are terrible, with my favorites being Cy-kill and Gobotron. On the other hand, this movie may have brought out the most groans we’ll ever have on this show. Mind you, we watched Plan 9.
