Japanese Pokemon fans are about to get a new game for the Wii U, as Pokemon Scramble U hits the Nintendo eShop this spring.
In what must surely be welcome news to Wii U owners waiting for the system to pick up steam, Nintendo has confirmed that they’re bringing a new Pokemon game to the Wii U… though for now, it’s a Japan exclusive. Pokemon Scramble U is a follow-up to Pokemon Rumble and Pokemon Rumble Blast, which were released for the Wii and 3DS respectively. The series is a step in a different direction from the main, turn-based RPG series that so far has remained exclusive to Nintendo’s handhelds (and with two new entries, X and Y, coming later this year)… instead of ordering your Pokemon around and waiting for it to attack, you control the creature yourself in gameplay that’s similar to dungeon crawlers or other melee-based games. It’s assumed that Pokemon Scramble U will use the same gameplay mechanics.
The other two games in the series have received mixed reviews at best, but since they, too, started as Japan exclusives, it’s safe to assume Pokemon Scramble U will be coming stateside eventually. We’ll keep you posted.
