Quantum Conundrum's Score Composed by a President

Square Enix has announced that Chris Ballew, the “Basitarist” and vocalist for the band The Presidents of the United States of America is providing the score for the upcoming first person puzzle game Quantum Conundrum. Although, Ballew is probably best known for his work with PUSA (who’s hits include “Peaches” and “Lump”), he also writes acoustic songs for children under the name “Caspar Babypants” (how’s that for a stage name?)

“I like making music for kids because I admire their inventive imaginations, and as an adult I nurture that same creativity in myself,” said Ballew. “The gameplay, humor and art style in Quantum Conundrum embodies that same sentiment.”

Quantum Conundrum was developed by Airtight Games, under the direction of former Portal lead designer Kim Swift. The game’s approach is a bit more on the lighter, more stylized side as compared to Portal and the developers seemed to think an off-beat soundtrack by Chris Ballew would be a nice fit.

“Chris was our top choice to score Quantum Conundrum,” said Tom Smurdon, audio director for Quantum Conundrum at Airtight Games. “The team wanted someone who would be fun and quirky and would really fit the style of the game.  He’s a ton of fun to work with and all of that comes through in the music he writes.”

Quantum Conundrum will be available for PC tomorrow June 21. It will also be available on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network sometime later this summer.
