Most of have or know of Steam, which is an online community where you can purchase and download PC games to any computer or laptop as long as you use your Steam account. This service has brought many classic PC games back into the light. Most said PC games won’t work on newer rigs but thanks to Steam, many gamers are able to relive old memories.
On November 15th, Microsoft will enter this world with Games on Demand and just might be Steam’s newest rival. The Games for Windows Marketplace will work the same as Steam, where you can purchase a PC game.
“With Games for Windows Marketplace, we set out to create a digital store built for PC gamers end-to-end. And by integrating with our existing Xbox LIVE and Windows Live services, we’ve made it easier than ever for millions of gamers to see for themselves how easy buying PC games can be.” – Kevin Unangst, senior global director at Microsoft of PC and Mobile Gaming
You will be able to use your Gamer Tag, Zune ID or Windows Live ID to log in and there is no need for any type of client. Since it’s downloaded from the web and connected to your ID, you will be able to download and play the games that you purchase on any laptop or PC that you use.
No word yet if buying and playing these games will yield achievements or if retro PC games will be offered but it will be interesting to see what Microsoft can do with this.
