New Release Date for Console Version of Risen 2

It looks like Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players will have to wait a little bit longer to lift their anchors and set sail upon the monster ridden seas of Risen 2: Dark Waters. Deep Silver has announced that the Piranha Bytes developed pirate-themed action RPG will be released on consoles on July 31 in North America and August 3 in Europe. The console version will also include an additional episode entitled “The Air Temple”. In an adventure separate from the main storyline, the hero goes on a quest to discover a lost temple, a source of powerful air magic, on the mysterious Storm Island.

Risen 2: Dark Waters takes the complex open world concept of the original Risen and puts a swashbuckling pirate spin on it. What we’ve seen so far has been graphically impressive, from lush tropical jungles,  crystal clear open waters to detailed galleons and a large cast of swarthy bucanneers. You once again take on the role of the nameless protogranist of the original game, now a broken down shell of a man in the port town of Caldera, the supposed last bastion of humanity. Caldera’s ships are constantly assaulted by terrible sea monsters and a cadre of pirates may hold the key to defeating them. Its up to you to find and infiltrate this group of pirates, learn their secrets and save Caldera. Swordfighting, firearms, cunning and even a little bit of magic in the form of “voodoo” are all at  your disposal as you level up and customize your character’s traits to suit your style of play.

Risen 2: Dark Waters will be out on PC first on April 27. A full review of this third person action RPG will be posted based on that version around that date. The console versions for both Xbox 360 and PS3 will be out in North America on July 31 and in Europe on August 3
