The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the “Rock Band Network,” which was announced last year, will finally be launching tomorrow.
The program, which be released on both the 360 and the PS3, will grant little known musicians (or anyone else with money to burn and time to spare) the ability to upload their own music to the Rock Band music store, where it can then be purchased and downloaded by anyone who owns the game.
For those who wish to shell out $160, they’ll be able to create and distribute their music to the masses, charging either 80, 160, or 240 Microsoft Points a song ($1-3), and receive a 30% cut of the profits. That may not be much, but the potential exposure is probably worth it.
The song creation process is fairly complicated (as the thumbnail at right can attest to), as Harmonix sound designer Caleb Epps told Kotaku that the program is expected to be used by those “with a little bit of musical knowledge.”
That being the case, it will be interesting to see how the music store selection expands over the coming weeks and months.
