Mario Kart Wii was designed to be the most accessible Mario Kart. The power-ups are plentiful, the rubber-banding is obvious, and the controls were simple. Part of that design was the Wii Wheel. It wasn’t the first time a racing game used a plastic add-on for the Wii controller, but it caught on much better than Ubisoft’s odd cel-shaded experiment.
In an apparent attempt to replicate the success of the Wii version, the 3DS’s Mario Kart will also have a complementary wheel. The wheel will be manufactured by Hori and will cost ¥1,280. In the US, that would be approximately $16. It will release the same day as Mario Kart 7 in Japan, December 1. We don’t know when it will launch or what it will cost for everyone else, but it will probably be similar to the Japanese launch.
