Have you been keeping up with the sales numbers on the Nintendo 3DS? I have, and let me tell you, for a gadget that attempted to break a mold in the handheld gaming category it hasn’t done so hot. In fact, Engadget reported that Nintendo downgraded their expected profit from ¥110 billion to ¥20 billion.
There are speculations as to why the sudden price drop, but I’m sure we can all connect the dots. Nintendo plans to push out 16 million 3DS units along with their A-List of titles they announced at E3.
To early adopters, yes you may be out $80, but Nintendo would like to reward your eager-beaverness (aka loyalty) with 20 free games. On a more serious note though, it’s my opinion that Nintendo has handled this quite gracefully by pleasing both ends of the proverbial paddle.
Thanks TC!
