September 19, Launch Day for AMD’s FX Series Processors

Finally, after a long year of waiting and swimming through false screenshots and delays, AMD’s new Zambezi Processors, featuring the Bulldozer architecture will be released September 19, 2011. AMD will be launching two 8-core models one of which I’m eagerly looking forward to getting my hands on. The two models are; Zambezi FX-8100 and the Zambezi FX-8150; a 6 core model will also be released that day along with a 4 core model. I know earlier in the year there were screenshots of Zambezi processors featuring the letter ‘P’, P signifying it was an unlocked processor. But as it turns out all the Zambezi’s are unlocked so…yeah…no P.

The specification table below shows how AMD plans on releasing their new line of processors for this year and some of early 2012. Something to take note of though, is the second round of processors that will be released after September will be faster, but as for how much faster? Nobody really knows. I am hoping they’ll be fast enough to give Intel’s I7-2600k a run for its money or at least the I5 version, which are on the tad bit pricey side. AMD is working with motherboard vendors to ensure adequate propagation of socket AM3+ motherboards, and more importantly, for DDR3-1866 MHz memory to become more affordable, since FX processors yield the most optimal performance with that memory speed.

Who’s Replacing Who?

Brand Current Replacing
FX 8150 8170
FX 8100 8120
FX 6100 6120
FX 4100 4120

The table above reads as follows, the first row is the brand of processors followed by the models being released in September, and the ones that will replace them in the coming year. So 8150 will be replaced by the 8170 and the 8100 will be replaced by the 8120, so fourth and so on.
