HDMI Demystified

In the modern age where high-definition media is taking the world by storm, and where money is tighter than ever, people are looking to get the most out of their HDTVs for as cheap as possible. Unfortunately, we have companies who are claiming their HDMI cables will give you better quality, but all they’re doing is ripping you off.

Digital media, such as audio or video, is all an assortment of 1s and 0s, which many of us know as “binary code.” These codes are sent down through your devices to your TV through the HDMI cable and bring your games, movies, or music to life. People are sadly duped into thinking that the quality will be better if they purchase these premium cables, which is certainly not the case. Purchasing a premium quality HDMI cable may help ensure that the cable itself is of quality, but it will not make the picture quality better.

The quality of your media all comes down to the source; HDMI cables are lossless. The companies trying to sell you on that fact that your picture quality is going to be better, I’m here to tell you 100% false. Why? Because those $100 cables are transmitting the same 1s and 0s as the HDMI cables that cost you less than $10. If you’re looking to buy a premium cable, do so for the quality of the product itself, but don’t be fooled into thinking that the quality of your media will be better.

If you want to make sure you’re getting the most out of your HDTV, be sure to have it properly calibrated so that you’re not only seeing the image as it was intended to be seen, but also cutting down on the energy consumption of your TV and increasing it’s overall life-span. Too much brightness and contrast only burns the TV out faster.
