PAX West has seen a new gameplay trailer from Cuphead, an upcoming title that mixes the thrills of run-and-gun action games with classic cartoons aesthetics from the 1930s.
Ever since the Cuphead announcement trailer came out, the game has attracted a fair share of attention due to its peculiar and original style. There’s definitely something very nostalgic about the game, even if we do not precisely belong to these cartoons’ generation. And something wilder, for Cuphead does not show signs of being particularly easy to beat…
Cuphead is arriving for Xbox One and PC on September 29 already. In the meantime, its developers have granted us another lengthy peek on its gameplay. This playthrough takes us through the game’s tutorial, battles and also in-game shop and brings Cuphead directly under our Fanatical radar. Check it out!
What Is Cuphead All About?
Cuphead is an original turn to your typical run-and-gun game. It puts you in the shoes of a, well, cup head, as he tries to repay the bet he has lost with the devil. Built around continuous boss fights and an action RPG-style world, this title also features a two-player cooperative mode and plenty of levels to go through.
Special props go to its artistic direction, of course, as this is probably what strikes the most out of it. In that sense, Cuphead has been carefully crafted following techniques of the era, including hand drawn cel animations and watercolor backgrounds. All of that topped with original jazz recordings from the time.
