Spooky Times Await in Overwatch’s Halloween Update

Spooky, scary skeletons won’t be the only thing sending shivers down your spine this Halloween, as Blizzard has launched a new seasonal event for Overwatch called Halloween Terror.

Remember how we heard about a Halloween event possibly popping up in Overwatch? Yeah, that’s happened – today. The latest patch (1.4.0.2) adds more than 100 new cosmetic items including skins, emotes, victory poses, and other themed knick-knacks to get your favorite characters into character for the month of October.

What’s In The Box?!

The new Loot Boxes for Halloween Terror act in most of the same ways as the Summer Games boxes. They are in separate crates from the default and will be given in lieu of standard boxes until November 1. One major change, however, is that players can now purchase the skins and other items with standard currency. They are priced the same with the exception of the Dr. Junkenstein and Junkentein’s Monster legendary skins, which are 3000 gold instead of the standard 1000.

The ability to purchase items from the Halloween Terror Loot Boxes solves one of the biggest complaints from the Summer Games event last August. One had to either earn those Loot Boxes via level-ups or purchase them outright, but both methods left the player with only a chance of getting the rarer content. While players will most likely have to purchase the Terror Loot Boxes for the Junkenstein/Monster skins, at least the rest of the content can be obtained with a significantly reduced payout.

Like the Summer Games event, a special Brawl was also added. Junkenstein’s Revenge is a Co-Op Brawl where four players work together to fend off Dr. Junkenstein’s army of Zomnics. Each player will play either Hanzo, Ana, McCree, or Soldier: 76 in a PvE defense against the Dark (Scientific) Arts.
