Without a doubt, the world of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is grim and dreary. Here is a gallery of some world cities in that hypothetical 2029, courtesy of Eidos’ art team.
How would your city look like in the dystopian, ultramodern world of Deus Ex? More specifically, how would it feel post the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution? The art team of Eidos have explored this question and delivered an interesting showcase of cities two years after the so called “Aug Incident.”
You probably remember what happened back then, right? A bunch of augmented individuals worldwide descended into madness on the spot? Not a nice thing at all. Now imagine the worldwide consequences of that.
That’s what the gallery is all about: a glimpse over the complicated reality that is waiting for us in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Some of the images are more vicious than others (I mean, check that Barcelona and Moscow shots…) and yet even the lighter ones carry a sort of background menace to them. Stockholm and Rio de Janeiro may be the sole exceptions of a future dominated by the shadows of corporations and technological tyranny. The Moscow image in particular is catching attention for its use of the phrase “Augs Lives Matter,” an obvious play on the present day “Black Lives Matter” movement, which is…interesting.
