Batman: Return to Arkham Indefinitely Delayed

Turns out we won’t be returning to Arkham anytime soon; Return to Arkham, the high-definition remasters of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, has been shelved until further notice.

Initially, the remastered versions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City were to be playable on July 26th. While people were glad to see two of the best superhero games being remastered for the current gen, it wasn’t long before trouble started to brew. People started to notice how the games’ remastered versions looked worse than the originals. It goes without saying that a remaster should look and run better than its predecessor. As such, you can probably imagine people weren’t too pleased about this.

The official statement on the delay came a few days ago on Warner Bros. Games’ official forums. At the very least, the publisher saw the negative backlash and took step to rectify the problem. This statement comes directly from the information giving via the forums:

“After reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuous Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience. We do not have a release date yet and will be sure to communicate that once we are sure the game will be ready. We know this is disappointing news, but we feel the extra time will allow the team to create the best gaming experience for our fans.”
As the statement previously said, no release date detail has been made known to anyone but there’s a good chance the delay will only be for a couple of months.

Also note that Return to Arkham didn’t include Arkham Origins, which was developed by Warner Bros. Montreal and not Rocksteady Studios, the developers behind Asylum and City.

Return To Arkham will still come out for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems but at a much later date. We’ll update this story when the release date and further details is made known.
