Check Deformers, the Next Game from Ready at Dawn

De-Formers

Let’s be honest. Deformers may not be what you would expect from Ready at Dawn, the development studio behind The Order: 1886 and some God of War titles, but it certainly looks like tons of fun!

From a narrative-driven and cinematic action game to a world of colorful and bubbly creatures that you would like to squeeze non-stop. It seems quite a change, right? Don’t worry, you are not alone. “I think that’s been the first reaction for everybody who’s laid their eyes on this game”, said Ru Weerasuriya, co-founder and chief creative officer at Ready at Dawn – and he’s surely right. Moreover, he’s confident that people will have a blast with it.

The next project of the studio has been in the making since last year already. It gets away from the deem reality of steampunk London and proposes a multiplayer smash-em-up arena that relies purely on physics and… loads of goo. Weerasuriya expects both fans of the studio and newcomers to be surprised, pick it up and give it a go. Well, you certainly caught our attention, Sir.

Deformers

Deformers: It’s All About the Physics

The game relies on a soft body physics simulator and easy-to-learn rules. You pretty much have to destroy your opponents either by slamming and kicking them at high speed, shooting them or grabbing their jellied surface and throwing them off the boundaries of the battleground.

Once a creature (they are called Forms and of course they are beguiling little things) gets killed, it disappears from this world leaving a clump of goo, which can be used then by other players to boost their own size and ammunition. From time to time a power-up will drop from the sky, grating special abilities to the first one that catches it. Even if you die, you will be promptly slobbed over the battlefield.

If you do not like frantic battles, then this is probably not the game for you. Deformers is all about fast-paced combats. In order to be the bubbly master of disaster, you need to be always on the go, which of course also adds to its just-another-match nature.

There’s still no date for Deformers, although we do know that it will arrive for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If they allow a cross-play function, this game could certainly find a niche in the competitive scene for a lot of players. We’ll have to wait and see what other arenas and game-plays modes the studio has up their sleeves for. But, as Weerasuriya states, this is only a first glimpse and there’s much more to come.
