Nintendo To Let 500 Fans Play Zelda Wii U Early

Nintendo in 2016

Nintendo is offering 500 fans a chance to play The Legend of Zelda on Wii U before anyone else.

The event will take place at the Nintendo store in New York, with sign-ups for the event taking place on June 11. All you’ve got to do is turn up on the day with photo ID and if you’re one of the first 500 people in line, you’ll receive a wristband, which can then be traded in for a ticket to the demo event.

The six-day event kicks off at noon ET on June 14. Nintendo says it will be streaming to the NY store’s 15-foot TV directly from the Nintendo E3 booth to allow people to see the new Zelda in action. There’ll also be trivia and prizes being offered.

The event listing is as follows:

June 11, 9 a.m. ET

Nintendo NY The Legend of Zelda experience

  • June 14, noon-3 p.m. ET (Nintendo Treehouse: Live screening from E3)
  • June 14, 3-8 p.m. ET (hands-on experience for fans with appointments)
  • June 15-19, Nintendo NY store hours (hands-on experience for fans with appointments)
  • June 15-19, Nintendo NY store hours (guided gameplay presentations with Nintendo experts and trivia)

The Legend of Zelda on Wii U was originally planned for a 2016 release, but ended up being postponed into 2017 so the team could “allow further improvement of quality.” The game is also planned to be a launch title for Nintendo’s next console codenamed NX to be released in March 2017.

Are you looking forward to the new Zelda game? Will you purchase it for the NX or the Wii U? Let us know in the comments below!
