Civilization VI is scheduled to come out this October, so be sure to set your affairs in order before then.
There are some games that, when they are announced, bring about conflicting feelings of both excitement and dread. Excitement because you know they will bring you so much joy, but dread because they threaten to consume your entire life and put your job/relationships/family life in jeopardy. Few video games evoke this quite like Sid Meier’s Civilization series. This turn-based history game is renowned…and perhaps even notorious…for its ability to pull players in for countless hours of research, diplomacy, and conquest; taking just ‘one more turn’ to see how their version of history plays out.
Well, the latest installment, Civilization VI, is scheduled for release on October 21, 2016. Publisher 2K Games and Developer Firaxis have released an introduction trailer that shows no gameplay, but whose music and imagery sends chills up the spine of anyone who has ever played a game in this series. In addition to the announcement of Civilization VI, their site details some of the changes to this latest installment, which you can see below:
EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain.
ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures.
DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations.
COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units.
ENHANCED MULTIPLAYER: In addition to traditional multiplayer modes, cooperate and compete with your friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be easily completed in a single session.
A CIV FOR ALL PLAYERS: Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. New tutorial systems introduce new players to the underlying concepts so they can easily get started.
No doubt, there will be more information as this game nears its release date. In the meantime, it is recommended that you notify your family and friends in anticipation of your inevitable disappearance this Fall.
