Good news to all Warhammer 40K fans out there. Dawn of War 3 is really happening and arriving to all our computers next year. What’s more: it has a brand new trailer you should definitely watch!
“There’s a terrible darkness descending upon the galaxy, and we shall not see it end in our lifetimes.” This is the tone of gloom and darkness that the new Warhammer 40K game proposes. We are referring to Dawn of War 3, the latest real-time strategy title created by Relic Entertainment and published by SEGA. They have announced today that it will come next year and that will match the action level of Dawn of War 2.
Indeed, a quick glance over the trailer shows the elements the fans already know and cherish. Blunt and epic action, massive galactic warfare and crazy creatures doing what they do best: inflict high doses of pain.
In this new installment we will follow on the events of the two previous games and move forward. According to Sega’s press release, Dawn of War 3 will bring back the epic scale of the series’ tactical combats with the customization and elite heroes that were already presented in Dawn of War II. One of the main novelties brought by that second title back in 2009 was the disappearance of the typical build-your-base element and its replacement with a direct squad-focused approach. This system granted Dawn of War 2 very positive reviews worldwide and it seems this third game is adopting that fully.
Another detail that we see in the trailer is the introduction of what executive producer Stephen MacDonald announced already as the “super-walker units.” This is, the biggest units the world of Dawn of War has ever seen. So far, the game is only known to bring the Space Marine, Ork and Eldar races although previous games added new ones in successive expansions packs, something that could well happen here again.
There’s still a lot to hear from this PC title and SEGA will surely space out more information about it in the upcoming months. For the time being, make sure you check their official website to get a first taste!
