Cyberpunk 2077 Will Make Us Wait

Cyberpunk 2077

A visual effects artist for CD Projekt RED confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 is still in a very early stage.

You remember that Cyberpunk 2077 neat trailer that CD Projekt Red pulled out more than two years ago? For a lot of people, the team brought the definition of “teaser” to the next level. All it took was two minutes and zero talking. And they managed to leave us wondering like crazy about the bionic protagonist covered in blood, the whole bullet scene, the beats of that sci-fi world. And they did mention in the credit section when was the game coming. “When it’s ready,” they wrote.

A lot has happened ever since. The Witcher 3, for instance, which is saying goodbye to gamers soon enough with the upcoming Blood and Wine DLC. However, the echoes of that teaser still remain.

It goes without saying: knowing that CD Projekt Red is behind the birth of Cyberpunk 2077 is an immediate guarantee on quality. But one should also remember that these developers in particular take their own time to release something fresh, let alone a brand new game. So if you belonged to the group of optimists who thought that we could lay hands soon on this title, breath deeply and keep on reading.

The waiting is real. You better sit down…

Changing From Fantasy to Sci-Fi

The good news is that we got a little update on the status quo in PAX East 2016 thanks to one visual effects artist, Jose Teixeira, and an interview he gave to iDigitalGames. The bad ones, that everything indicates that the project is still in a very, very early phase. Meaning that the studio is still wrapping up Geralt’s legacy and updating their development tools and in-house software for the next big project. It is sad to finish up The Witcher 3 and find closure there. “But the truth is that everyone is insanely pumped about working on […] Cyberpunk 2077,” said Teixeira.

An elevated feeling that it is not coming from the team only. In order to leave up to the expectation of players, they are examining what worked and what did not during the development process of The Witcher 3. “As cliche as it sounds it was a big learning experience,” commented Teixeira. “The programmers are updating our software quite drastically.” So we will definitely see something in that front.

CD Projekt Red has referred to Cyberpunk 2077 as huge, ambitious, with a magnitude much greater than The Witcher. The game is allegedly scheduled to happen within the next four years for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC so do not expect to see any announcements in the near future.
