Ori and the Blind Forest Re-Casts Its Spell on the PC

On April 27th you will have another chance – or another excuse – to revisit the incredible Ori and the Blind Forest, as the definitive edition is released for the PC.

The game was originally released in March 2015 for Xbox One and Microsoft Windows, and ahead of the definitive edition making its way to Xbox One almost a month ago, PC players will now be given the definitive treatment. This new edition is priced at $19.99, but can be bought as a $4.99 upgrade for owners of the original game; it’s nice to see this concession made to its loyal fan base.

The definitive treatment consists of entirely new areas, music, story elements, and abilities that weren’t present in the original game; there is good reason to offer up your hard earned cash it seems. There are some games that make it very difficult to be cynical about a re-release; this is one of them. If you haven’t played it before then you’re in for an incredible treat, and you’re in for the best version of the game there is.

The game remains one of the best of its year, and now this year, due to its vivid and imaginative art direction; it carries off a hand-painted watercolour look that aches beauty in every frame. So much so it swept the awards, with Moon Studios picking up a BAFTA for Artistic Achievement. If you haven’t played it before then you’re in for an incredible treat, and you’re undoubtedly in for the best version of the game there is.
