GameSlam may just be the app that every gamer needs. Like many gamers out there, I have a huge stack of games I’ve already played. I could trade them in at GameStop, but I won’t get the full value out of them. I could try to sell them on ebay, but the the time and money needed to do it is normally too much.
What is GameSlam?
GameSlam is an app that connects you with other gamers in your area to trade games. It was created by TradeGuru Inc., a company known for creating trading apps. To start, you list games you want to get rid of, games you want to have, and the radius you’re willing to travel. Then, the app will match you up with other gamers that you may be able to trade with. To complete the trade, however, a $2.99 fee is applied.
Hands-On with GameSlam
I decided to give this app a shot. Like most “match-up” apps, you can connect it to your Facebook account. After that, I had to fill in information such as age and location (using GPS).
Once I had filled out my basic profile, I began adding games that I had. You have the option of scanning the game’s barcode, but I decided to add them through their search engine.
At first, their search engine was kind of odd because it listed random items related to the title of games you may put in. I assume this is because GameSlam’s database is shared with the rest of TradeGuru’s listings. While this did okay with games like Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch or Portal 2, it would take a while to find titles like Destiny.
I was able to eventually find the games I was looking for and add it to my library.
I went through the process with game that I wanted and refresh my matches.
So far, no dice. Even when I expanded my location to a 50 mile radius, I received no matches. This app is pretty new, so I’ll give it some time to see if anyone around me picks it up. Regardless of that, it looks good. I see the potential. It would be nice if the search function was refined to just games to make it easier to add to my lists, but that’s really my biggest complaint.
GameSlam is available now on both iOS and Android. Try it out and leave a comment on your experience.
