Fanatical 5 | Top 5 MIA Games for this New Generation

Kind of strange isn’t it? We’re barely a year into these new consoles and yet there are already a couple of games that have strayed from the spotlight. Whether or not the games just aren’t ready to be shown or they are gradually being reduced to vaporware, it’s still too early to tell at this point. Most of these games will probably make it out but it’s interesting to see why they’ve remained shrouded in darkness.

5. Deep Down, Capcom Online Games (PS4)

First Seen: Sony PS4 Reveal Event, February 20th 2013

Last Seen: Deep Down gets a new gameplay video uploaded onto Youtube on August 28th, 2014 with a supposed release date of 2015

The procedurally generated dungeons and monsters combined with highly detailed armor sets can often be a recipe for success, especially in the next-gen. What made a couple of gamers nervous were the seemingly repetitive nature of the combat and the free-to-play model.

We don’t know much about the game but we do know that you’ll be bouncing back and forth between the past and future, ala Assassin’s Creed but inside deep, decrepit dungeons teeming with trolls and dragons. The graphics have been lauded ever since Deep Down’s debut at Sony’s PS4 reveal event in New York back in February 2013 but we still don’t know when its coming out or if it will even make it to the western market despite all the trailers having English dialogue.

4. The Last Guardian, Team Ico (PS3, PS4)

First Seen: Sony PlayStation E3 Press Conference 2009

Last Seen: August 2014- Sony states The Last Guardian is still under development

We could probably make this list again next year and The Last Guardian wouldn’t even have to move places. This illusive title is constantly being revived by speculative leaks and miscommunication between executives. No one really knows what the state of The Last Guardian is, is it almost finished? Is it starting from scratch? What exactly is Team Ico doing right now? We wish we could give you all the answers but right now it’s up to Sony to do something about it.

3. Mirrors Edge 2, EA Digital Illusions CE (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

First Seen: EA E3 Keynote 2013

Last Seen: June 23, 2014 – According to the report of Cyberland, the Mirror’s Edge 2 release date is set on April 2016

Mirror’s Edge 2 is looking to tell the origin story of Faith and we can’t wait to step in her shoes once again. The first game was a breath of fresh air that may have inadvertently given birth to the parkour subgenre we’re seeing in videogames today. Unfortunately, we have not heard much from this game since it’s initial unveiling. We weren’t given a solid release date. It’s a little disconcerting but we’re hoping EA takes the time to polish and deliver a complete experience.

2. Agent, Rockstar North (PS3, PS4)

First Seen: Sony E3 Playstation Press Conference 2007

Last Seen: Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive Renews “Agent” trademark in July of 2013

We’re still holding out hope for this title but maybe we’re just wallowing in denial. Rockstar has had its hands full lately with the incontestable launch of GTA V and their upcoming next-gen treatment so it would be interesting to know what the other teams have been working on. Agent was supposed to be a stealth action game with intelligent AI and an engaging story. It’s a shame it may never see the light of day but then why did Take-Two Interactive renew the trademarks? Maybe we’re just looking into it too much.

1. Beyond Good & Evil 2, Ubisoft Montpellier (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

First Seen: Paris VGL event, 2008

Last Seen: Ubisoft officially confirms Beyond Good & Evil 2 as being actively in production on July 31st, 2014

Who knows what is happening with this game. We’re still not even sure if its going to be called Beyond Good & Evil 2 but we can only assume because the series was originally planned as a trilogy. This game has been shrouded in darkness for a while now but we’re going to bet that this one makes it out before The Last Guardian or Agent. It would be interesting to see how many people are still waiting excitedly for this title and how many have gotten over it.

No console generation is safe from vaporware but we’re willing to bet that at least 3 out of these titles will make it out within the next 2 years. When do you think these titles will resurface? Sound off in the comments below.
