When Sony revealed Grand Theft Auto 5 in a short but riveting trailer at its E3 press conference last week, many were wowed by how gorgeous it all looked. But now that E3 fever has subsided and the rose-tinted lenses are off, how does Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PS4 actually compare with the original version? Is there a significant difference between the two that would warrant a second purchase of the same game?
To answer that, Digital Foundry pieced together a video consisting of relevant footage from the PS3 game with scenes from the PS4 trailer to illustrate the stark differences between the two.
From the foam in the waves, the lighting, the lush forestry, the way the world looks during and after rainfall and much further draw distance, Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PS4 looks like a remarkably different game. Further given that Rockstar has mentioned there will be new weather effects and wildlife among possible features, it very well might be.
Let’s all hope Rockstar does not do a Ubisoft on us and downgrade the game before it’s released though.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was first released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and will be available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC sometime in Fall 2014.
