Hideo Kojima, who we all know is somewhat of a Twitterholic, posted a gallery of custom video game hardware released in commemoration of his previous games—some photos from an article in Famitsu, and some photos from his own personal collection.
After the gallery, Kojima posted (only to the Japanese version of his Twitter):
Translated, it means “I wonder if you want a limited edition too.”
This could be a simple statement about the enviable nature of the consoles he’s showing off—Kojima’s favorite gunmetal PS3 included in the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle was not only gorgeous but one of the last versions of the PS3 to include backwards compatibility, and the snakeskin 3DS released with Metal Gear Solid 3 is entertainingly ridiculous—but considering that there’s been a hardware bundle from Sony for nearly every Metal Gear game released after Metal Gear Solid, it’s not farfetched that Sony would be planning a limited edition bundle for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.
They’re certainly planning something, though: not long after that tweet, Kojima also tweeted (again, in Japanese only):
Translated, that means “A Sony x PS4 x MGS GZ collaboration measure is afoot. Details later.”
It seems premature to be doing limited-edition hardware bundles when Sony is still struggling to keep the vanilla PS4 hardware in stock, and while Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is likely to move a lot of PS4 hardware (even though the prologue will also be available for Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360), it seems unlikely that Sony will have fixed their supply issues by Ground Zeroes‘ March 18, 2014 release date.
Kojima also seemed to greatly enjoy seeing The LEGO Movie, saying “IMO surpassed “Toy Story”. Will see at least 3 times more.” Here’s hoping this might mean a LEGO Metal Gear Solid collaboration someday.
