Despite the lackluster performance of Aliens: Colonial Marines, it appears that we’re officially getting a new video game entry in the Alien franchise: Alien: Isolation.
Rumors of the new title began back in October with a report by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier. A product summary on the Xbox Marketplace matches that report:
Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger. Fifteen years after the events of Alien™, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother’s disappearance. As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.
Alien: Isolation, published by Sega, is being developed by Creative Assembly, known for their work on the Total War franchise.
Screenshots for the (as of this writing) unannounced game were leaked last month on Eurogamer. Of interesting note is the fact that the screenshots and Xbox Live listing were both leaked by the same person: lifelower, an “XBLA watchdog.”
We may be getting official confirmation regarding Alien: Isolation in the very near future, as Game Informer is set to unveil a next-gen only cover story. For now, it looks like the cat is out of the bag: Alien. Next generation consoles. Tempered expectations. Let’s get it on.
