Apple Updates iMacs with New Processors and Graphics

While a new iPhone, or iPad is always big news all over the world, new iMacs always seem to launch with little fanfare. Tuesday is proof of that as the upgraded 21.5 inch, and the 27 inch iMacs quietly rolled out onto the showroom floors of Apple Stores around the country.

What exactly is under the hood of Apples all in one desktop computers? The 21.5 inch iMac comes with two choices, the base versions sports a 2.7GHz quad-core Intel i5 Haswell processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.2GHz and an Intel Iris Pro graphics card that sells for $1,299. Or a $1,499 versions which boasts a 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6GHz and a Nvidia GeForce 750M. The 27 inch iMac, which retails for $1,799 is now sporting a 3.2GHz quad-core Intel i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6GHz and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 755M. Or you can go top shelf with a 3.4GHz quad-core Intel i5 processor with Turbo Boost speeds of up to 3.8GHz and a Nvidia Geforce GTX 775M which retails at $1,999.

In addition to the new processors and graphics card, the new iMacs have been updated to support a 802.11ac base station which will give wireless performance that is three times faster than the previous generation of desktop computers. Also standard with the latest iMacs is 8GB of ram, expandable to 32GB, and a 1TB hard drive, expandable to 3GB. All-Flash storage options are available in configurations of up to 1TB. The new desktops finish off the package with 4 USB 3.0 ports, as well as 2 Thunderbolt ports. For those that don’t know the Thunderbolt is Apples I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays as well as high performance data devices through a single port.
