3D Gaming Having Negative Affect on Nintendo?

It seems like Nintendo just can’t get back on their feet recently, and with the new reports of a $626 Million loss for the first 9 months of the fiscal year (ending March 2012), Nintendo continues to lose ground. These numbers are a complete 360 from the $637 Million profit they turned at this same point last year. Where is this loss coming from?

CuponCodes4U conducted an independent survey on 2,291 gamers. One particular question asked, “Are you in favour of future next generation consoles having 3D technology?” showed 71% of participants answering “no.” With the release of the 3DS last year, this could explain the reasoning behind Nintendo‘s recent financial troubles. The 3DS has not been selling as Nintendo expected it to, and Nintendo is possibly looking at changing the name of it’s upcoming console to something other then the Wii U, to help differentiate it within the market.

Those who answered “no” were asked why they were against 3D compatibility in gaming and 84% stated they seen 3D as “a fad,” and 31% stating that they had played and were not impressed with the Nintendo 3DS. Some people also stated that the 3DS made them feel dizzy, and others said that they felt that 3D didn’t improve their gaming experience.

The survey also asked other question regarding 3D entertainment and 42% of participants answered that they felt 3D movies were unneccesary, most of which answered that they thought 3D movies were “overly expensive.” Only 3% of everyone surveyed stated that they owned a 3DTV.

“We’ve seen searches and sales of 3D games and consoles nosedive in the last year and Nintendo’s financial fortunes as a pioneer of 3D gaming reflect this. As a gamer myself, I just don’t see why manufacturers feel the need to jump on this particular bandwagon.” – Mark Pearson, Chairman of CouponCodes4U.com
