Owners of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn have had troubles logging into the game due to full servers. Those servers are full because there’s a total of 187,000 people wanting to play at the exact same time.
This breaks the record for a Japanese game that was previously set at 150,000, a mark set by the A Realm Reborn beta. Square Enix is estimating that the concurrent player count is expected to grow to over 200,000 in the very near future. Once more servers are added and new players can purchase the game, this doesn’t seem like a far fetched idea.
To outsiders, this is an incredibly amazing feat. The original Final Fantasy XIV was a complete disaster on all accounts and the game’s relaunch of A Realm Reborn didn’t excactly receive the same mainstream attention as, say, Elder Scrolls Online. To those actually playing the game, however, this isn’t exactly a shock. It’s been hard to find a complaint once players are able to log in and start enjoying the re-tooled world Square Enix has made. They definitely have earned a tip of my cap.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go back to playing.
