Heart of the Swarm Gets a Cinematic Trailer

With its March 12th release right around the corner, Blizzard has released the opening cinematic for their upcoming RTS expansion, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm.

Here’s a quick recap from Wings of Liberty. Jim Raynor isn’t a fan of Arcturus Mengsk. Sarah Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades, is still pissed, and everyone doesn’t want the zerg to eradicate all life. So, you know, basic things. The story ended with a large scale battle on the planet Char, with Raynor himself, having joined forces with Dominion troops to try to save Sarah and eliminate the zerg, carrying a now human Kerrigan in his arms.

While things may appear to have ended happily ever after, we must remember that there’s still two games to go. Things are going to go down. Lives are going to be lost. Koreans have tournaments to win.

While the multiplayer is no doubt one of the driving forces behind StarCraft, storytelling has been a point of emphasis for Blizzard as well with the StarCraft II trilogy. Today, they’ve released the opening cinematic for Heart of the Swarm, showcasing Kerrgin’s zerg in all their glory, before she awakens and realizes she’s on an operating room table. She may appear to be human and “cured,” but no doubt the Queen of Blades still lingers inside her.

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm will be available for PC and Mac March 12th.
