Meet Octogeddon, the Next Game from the Creator of Plants vs Zombies

Octogeddon

George Fan, co-creator of Plants vs Zombies, is busy with the development of a new game, Octogeddon. As its name teases, it’s all about a crazy octopus with delusions of grandeur.

Have you ever thought of the majestic vision of an octopus while you were angry? Well, during a game jam back in 2012 the co-creator of Plants vs Zombies, George Fan, thought about that. And the result, after some years of scrapping and prototyping, is a game that goes by the name of Octogeddon, in which we become… Octogeddon, the ultimate mutant octopus with an unquenchable thirst for world devastation.

“It’s a game about anger and destruction,” Fan has commented. “It’s not to be taken seriously.” His indie studio, All Yes Good, decided to make this information public to celebrate World Octopus Day, which happened to be yesterday (and no, we also did not know about that).

From Plants vs Zombies to Octogeddon

When it came out in 2009, Plants vs Zombies won our hearts with its friendly, yet challenging gameplay. On top of that, it made PopCap Games rather loaded. Since that release, a number of successors have seen the light, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 being the latest one.

George Fan, co-creator of the original title, left the company some time after and he was indecisive about his next steps in the videogame industry. He then took part in the game jam Ludum Dare 24, where participants were tasked to make a working game in only 48 hours and within the topic of “evolution.” After two days, George Fan had the skeleton of the game that is now Octogeddon. In that early prototype he already draw the idea of a crazy octopus that evolves his tentacles to assume other animal’s characteristics – with deadly consequences for the rest of the world. He did not start building the game immediately afterwards, although it was a matter of time until he founded All Yes Good.

Octogeddon will arrive to Steam on early 2017. In the meantime, you can check this trailer of awesomeness or head to the official Twitter account for more updates.
