E3 2012 | Construct and Conquer with CastleStorm on Xbox Live Arcade

The producer of the Pinball FX2 franchise, Zen Studios, has announced the newest game to power up their presence on the Xbox Live Arcade platform.

CastleStorm is a two-dimensional RTS combining medieval combat and physics-based structure demolition. Players will be able to manage resources and engage in archery projectile warfare with ballista weaponry to defend themselves from enemies trying to topple their territory.

Exploding Morningstars and Apple Grenades aren’t CastleStorm’s only tools for victory. In the case that more of a charge is needed from your organized league of knights and swordsmen, spells can be cast to seize control of your conquest.

Mel Kirk, Vice President of Marketing and PR for Zen Studios, expresses the appeal of the publisher’s latest digital distribution:
“CastleStorm is frantic tower defense warfare with tons of weapons, enemies and characters. Fending off a barrage of Direwolves, Bear Riders and Hammer Throwers while destroying an enemy castle will make you laugh, think and adapt in order to survive.”
Zen Studios’ Creative Director, Neil Sorens, tapped into the childlike building-and-breaking fun of sand castles to provide a unique enhancement to the game. With an in-game tower construction editor, players can use to construct custom castles. The types of troops and armory made available to those forming their fortress will depend on certain choices made during its design.

Although Zen Studios will have a CastleStorm demonstration at this week’s E3 Expo, no official release date has been announced for the 2012 title. If you can’t be in Los Angeles for that, get a look at the gameplay with the trailer below.
