Asus Showcases New Asus Zenbook Infinity with Gorilla Glass

The second largest technology event this year is nearly underway, and for some companies they simply can’t wait for June 4th, to show their new hardware with the bells and whistles. Such companies like Asus: Leading provider in PC gaming motherboards. Have just told the world they’ve reinvented their Asus Zenbook Infinity with a really nice feature.

What feature you ask? Why Gorilla Glass; one of the best impact resistant, scratch resistant, and fingerprint resistant, screen protectors to date. Gorilla Glass is made of a thin sheet of alkali-aluminosilicate. Gorilla Glass is then strengthened using an ion-exchange process which forces large ions into the spaces between molecules on the glass surface. Specifically, glass is placed in a 400°C molten potassium salt bath, which forces potassium ions to replace the sodium ions originally in the glass. The larger potassium ions take up more space between the other atoms in the glass. As the glass cools, the crunched-together atoms produce a high level of compression stress in the glass that helps protect the surface from mechanical damage.

Asus’s new ultrabook the Asus Zenbook Infinity will undoubtedly have an edge over it’s competitors because of Gorilla Glass’s capabilities over the standard materials used in most ultrabooks. Hopefully Asus can price this new rugged piece of electronic deliciousness in a sub $1,500 USD price range. But only time will tell after this years Computex starting officially tomorrow.
