Amazon Spot is Added to its Growing Echo Lineup

Amazon introduced an interesting new device to its rapidly growing family of Echo devices. The Amazon Spot is a compact unit that combines the display of the Echo Show with features of Alexa all within a tiny footprint similar to the Echo Dot.

Amazon Spot

The Spot is aimed to for prime spots at your desk or bedside table. The display will show weather, news, alarms or a host of other functions. All of the function can be pulled up via voice command. The device integrates to your other IoT devices in your home to control lights, provide schedule updates, virtually anything you would need at your beck and call.

Using the voice commands also opens the door for sending voice and video calls through the Alexa functionality running under the hood. Amazon Spot sounds like a great device to add into a home to pull all of your IoT devices under one management system. It’s small, yet appealing design will not stand out when placed at convenient areas around the house. The Spot is available to pre-order online for $129.99 and will begin shipping in December.

Amazon Echo

In addition to the Spot, Amazon also announced the next generation Echo and Echo Plus. The new Echo models feature better sound, automated routines, and free outbound calling to the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

The new Echo and Echo Plus are available for pre-order now for $99.99 and $149.99 respectively. They are scheduled to ship out within the next month.

Personally, my Alexa was initially purchased more as a novelty and has quickly become a vital aspect of the home. It is amazing how often I find myself asking Alexa for information, to order something while cooking dinner, or just to play some music in the background. How has your experiences been using the Amazon devices? Is adding more to the mix overkill or just the next logical extension of a fully integrated house?
