The Witch is Back, Hideki Kamiya Wants to Make Bayonetta 3

The creator of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta Hideki Kamiya has said that he is very keen to make Bayonetta 3  saying, “It’s actually something I’ve been thinking a lot about.” He went on to add, “We’ve talked a lot about it internally at the company and I’ve written some outlines for what the game would be. And I feel really confident it would be cool if we got the chance to make it.”

Currently Kamiya is involved with Scalebound, but indicated in an interview with Polygon that he is keen to look at another Bayonetta game once development has wrapped. No doubt this will send hopeful shockwaves through the community of dedicated fans that wore down the buttons on their controllers – and the fingers on their hands – to stubs playing the first two games.

Kamiya founded Platinum games in 2006 and has worked on Bayonetta, Okami, and The Wonderful 101 to name a few – all of these are with different publishers. Kamiya was also asked if he had spoken with any publisher in regard to Bayonetta 3; he responded, “No, but I’ve spent a lot of time thinking in my head what that game would be. I’ve got ideas in my head for Okami 2 as well.”

Before we doubly rejoice at the prospect of another Okami game, we should bear in mind that Capcom still holds the rights, and so Kamiya’s desire alone will not make it happen. The same must also be said of Bayonetta 3, as they will need to find a publisher that will pick up the IP. Kamiya put the move to make a third Bayonetta game on the horizon: “Right now, we’re looking at opportunities… If that opportunity ever came up to make Bayonetta 3, that would be really, really cool.”

Hopefully there’s a publisher out there that will heed the call and lap up the opportunity.
