Whirlwind FX Element Keyboard Review

Whirlwind FX Element

During PAX East 2020, The Game Fanatics team was able to meet with the great minds behind the Whirlwind FX Element Keyboard. This is the first RGB keyboard that displays dynamic effects for whatever game you are playing. The technology and application that controls the lighting is really cool and lightweight. The software is written in HTML5 which keeps the application from being very resource-intensive. This is completely open-source so all users can feel free to create their own effects.

The way the Element keyboard works when reflecting the screen is with a downsampling technique. It takes what is displayed on the monitor of choice and replicates it in a pixelated form. This ensures that if desired, you will always have a dynamic display on your keyboard. Users also have the ability to create their own static keyboard layout within the software. The possibilities are limitless when it comes to customization.

The build quality here is fantastic. The majority of the Element keyboard is made of brushed aluminum and carbon fiber. The way that everything is sealed makes the device rugged and spill-proof. If anything is splashed or spilled on the keyboard, we were told that you can rinse it off with water and have no issues gaming after. It connects to the PC via a braided USB 3.0 cable. All of the keys are removable and replaceable. Whirlwind FX sells 2 additional types of keycaps. The ‘Lightcaps‘ go for $29.99 and sport a translucent face while the ‘Pudding Caps’ go for $24.99 and sport a black face with translucent siding. The keyboard itself retails for $99.99 and allows users to pick from 3 different switch types. After a few weeks of use, the keyboard feels amazing. It will definitely take more time and use in order to confirm it’s dexterity but it feels like it is built to last.

The Whirlwind FX Element keyboard is a product that is built for any level of user. There are tons of options for customization at both the hardware and software levels. It is constructed from rugged and long-lasting materials so you don’t have to worry about replacing this any time soon. Whirlwind provides quick support for all of its products, especially if you become a part of their Discord channel. Pair the Element keyboard with the Vortex and RGB light strips and you will really be in for a show. All of these products are available for purchase via the Whirlwind FX website and now Amazon. If you are in the market for a new keyboard, you definitely need to give this a try. It is worth your money.
