What to Play During Quarantine

The COVID-19 epidemic has thrown a wrench in everyone’s lives. Weeks into the quarantine, many are searching for things to do. Well below is a list of some of the games that you can sink hours into. There is a solid mix of experiences here so things don’t start to feel stale.

The Division 2: Warlords of New York

Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have done it again with a huge update to the Division 2. The Division 2 has already pulled in a ton of new players and Warlords of New York is a great place to jump in for new players. With this most recent update, you see that Ubisoft knows exactly what they are doing when it comes to creating an ongoing world. This may be the best implementation of ‘Seasons’ done in a game of this style. It leaves the game open for a potential endless surge of content. If you haven’t jumped into the Division yet, this is the best time to do it. You can just directly into the new content and once that is complete, you have hours of other campaign content to tackle.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

For many, this is the first time they are experiencing Animal Crossing. If you are a fan of playing games like The Sims and Stardew Valley, this is the game for you. For those new to the series, you are basically living the life of a farmer, archeologist, and traveler. There is almost a limitless amount of things that you can do in Animal Crossing. There isn’t much guidance after the first few hours of the game but you will definitely get sucked in while catching bugs and fish, planting new trees, traveling and exploring new islands and crafting. If you were able to get your hands on a switch before they started to sell out, give Animal Crossing a try.

Sparklite

Sparklite is a roguelite brawler that was released last year. It is marketed as a more approachable roguelike and that is exactly what it is. It is more forgiving when it comes to resources, health, and abilities. You can sit down for a quick fix or you can spend hours in this beautiful, pixelated world. Red Blue Games has really built a charming and fun product here. One could really sink hours into the exploration and development of this world. If you are looking to try a new genre, this is a great place to start. Each time the player returns to the map, everything is organized in a different way. You will spend resources unlocking things like maps, weapons, and upgrades that you do not lose. Sparklite possesses a certain type of charm that will keep you interested and playing this game for hours on end.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man is a little older than most of the games on this list but if you haven’t played it, it is the perfect time to tackle this backlog item. This will probably be one of the best experiences on the Playstation console this generation. This is one of the best feeling Spider-Man games in a long time and there is a ton of content available to you. Between the various side missions and DLC, there is definitely a lot to sink your teeth into here. Insomniac recently released a Game of the Year version of the game so if you come across the game for a decent price, don’t pass it up. You will spend hours just traversing the different parts of New York City.

Gears 5

Gears 5

Many may have stepped away from Gears 5 but the team over at the Coalition has added a lot to the game. Most recently, they have added the new multiplayer mode ‘Gridiron’. In this mode, two teams work to either capture a flag or eliminate the other team. There has been a ton of new additions when it comes to the Horde and Escape modes. New characters and abilities give the player so many ways to attack the various challenges in Gears 5. There is a ton to explore in the new, more open landscape of the Gears 5 campaign. If you haven’t sat down and played this game, you are in for a wild ride
