WB Interactive Entertainment Announces Lord of the Rings MOBA: Guardians of Middle-Earth

Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment announced that they’re entering their hat into the multiplayer online battle arena genre today with Guardians of Middle-earth for the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE.

Guardians of Middle-earth is set do launch in Autumn of 2012 and looks to “feature tie-ins to the upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” film.

Like most MOBAs, Guardians of Middle-earth will feature two teams of five in competitive arenas, battling it out.  Unique to GoMe (they weren’t thinking of the acronym when they named this one), you’ll be able to play some of the most iconic characters in fantasy; Gandalf, Sauron, Gollum, Thráin, among more, will all be playable characters.  Guardians of Middle-earth is also including in-game voice communications, which is a nice addition to the MOBA genre, as well as lots of stats and leaderboards that track victories, defeats, and more!

Senior Vice President Samantha Ryan, Production and Development at WBIE assures players that “the heroes and villains of Middle-earth are crafted in a way that perfectly intersects with MOBA game features, allowing the development team to create guardians with deep skills and abilities for gamers to master.”

As The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey gets closer to release date, players of GoMe will begin to have access to new guardians, which will continue even after the movie has been released.

Guardians of Middle-earth is set to cost 1200 Microsoft points or £11.99.
