To make the wait more bearable for the recently delayed Sonic Mania, SEGA has released a new gameplay trailer. The video features Knuckles the Echidna speeding through Flying Battery Zone Act 1.
Sonic Mania is a return to form of sorts for the popular blue hedgehog. Players will be able to play as one of three characters: Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles (a.k.a. Tails) Prower, or Knuckles the Echidna. Much like Mania’s Sega Genesis predecessors, each of our three heroes have distinct abilities, giving players different ways of conquering the game’s levels. The titular character can drop dash, Tails can fly and swim and Knuckles can glide through the air and climb walls.
The game is the ultimate celebration of the blue hedgehog’s critically acclaimed past. It brings back Genesis-era Sonic platforming with new levels to run through, stronger bosses, and the three aforementioned playable characters. The game will run at 60 FPS. It is developed by SEGA of America in collaboration with Christian Whitehead, PagodaWest Games, and Headcannon. Whitehead had previously handled Sega’s successful mobile ports of the classic Sonic games.
Sonic Mania will be digitally available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime this Summer. The Collector’s Edition of Sonic Mania is currently available for pre-order on the Sonic the Hedgehog official website.
