Watch Dogs 2 Officially Revealed Prior to E3

Watch Dogs 2 Officially Revealed Prior to E3

Before E3 week even kicks off, Ubisoft is getting the party started with the debut trailer for Watch Dogs 2.

The sequel to 2014’s next-gen franchise brings players to San Francisco as Marcus Holloway, a “brilliant young hacker who has fallen victim to ctOS 2.0’s predictive algorithms and is accused of a crime he did not commit.” Based on the debut CG trailer, it appears that the hacker group DedSec will have a prominent role in the game. Parkour may also be added into the mix, but again, this is only a CG trailer. There’s no gameplay or proper representation of in-game visuals.

A November 15th launch was confirmed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. There was no mention in Ubisoft’s press release of either the Wii U (who’s GamePad was dubbed a natural fit for Watch Dogs back in 2013) or the upcoming NX. You can, unsurprisingly, pre-order now, with several SKUs to choose from:

  • Standard Edition. It’s just a normal, plain old copy of Watch Dogs 2.
  • Deluxe Edition with a “Deluxe pack of digital customization items.”
  • Gold Edition with everything previously mentioned, plus the Season Pass for DLC.
  • Collector’s Edition (this is incredibly confusing on the press release so I’m just quoting it verbatim) “players can pre-order the Collector’s Edition – with either the Standard, Deluxe or Gold Edition of Watch_Dogs 2 – on the Uplay shop and receive the exclusive Wrench Junior robot, a motorized and endearing companion, controlled by an app available on smartphones or tablets.” It’s not clear if this is only available through Uplay; we’ll be reaching out to Ubisoft for clarification.

I can imagine that we’ll be seeing more of Watch Dogs 2 next week at E3 proper. Perhaps we’ll see some actual gameplay this week? Maybe it’ll be indicative of what the game is like at launch!

For what it’s worth, this is Ubisoft’s flagship holiday title, pending any surprises at E3. Ghost Recon Wildfire isn’t set to release until the next fiscal year, so that November release date looks pretty locked in.
