VIZIO 2.1 Sound Stand Review | The Perfect Sound System For Your Dorm or Apartment

We recently had the chance to review the new VIZIO 2.1 Sound Stand (s2121w0D0). So how does it hold up for game fanatics? Well first lets go over the specs…

  • 5.24” subwoofer
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • DTS TruSurrond, DTS TruVolume, DTS Studio Sound
  • Sub frequency 55 Hz- 100 Hz
  • Sound Stand frequency 55 Hz – 19 KHz

So right off the bat, it’s important to note that this is a sound stand, not a bar. Sound bars are generally higher in price and meant for larger spaces; check out Charles’ review of VIZIO’s giant 42″ sound bar. The VIZIO Sound Stand was engineered for smaller spaces, like dorm rooms, or small bedrooms; you can definitely get good use out of it in a medium room and that’s due to the built-in subwoofer. It is meant to be a platform for  your TV (hence the name) and can support the weight of up to 60 lbs and a TV as wide as 55″.

Let’s get right into the gaming, after all that’s probably what you came here for. And rightly so, because personally we found VIZIO’s Sound Stand to be an excellent companion for console gamers on a budget, or those who live in apartments/dorms where excessive noise could be an issue.

We found that we had to do little to no adjusting EQs for games to get the tones we were looking for. The game we played the most while testing was Wolfenstein: The New Order, so you’ve got a ton of bass from all the action packed Nazi killing; The subwoofer did a great job of shaking the room, and penetrating our souls when turned up loud enough (It was awesome).

What about movies you say? There are 2 main EQs you can adjust using the handy remote it comes with, bass, and treble. When watching an FX-intense film such as The Avengers, we found that sometimes it was hard to hear voices when listening at a normal volume level, in turn when the volume was raised the sound produced was a tad overpowering; that’s where adjusting EQs really came in handy but can be slightly time consuming to get the perfect balance.

One of our favorite features was the Bluetooth connectivity. Usually you lose a good bit of quality when using Bluetooth playback, but not with VIZIO’s Sound Stand. When we wanted to put music on autopilot, we simply synced up our phone to the sound stand and streamed some good ole’ Pandora or Spotify. The VIZIO Sound Stand has another really great feature called TRUsurround that upscales any audio track that has low quality. It surprisingly makes a huge difference, it can make any thin sounding track fill up a room.

At the end of the day the VIZIO Sound Stand is a $249 dollar sound stand that performs like an audio device 5 times more expensive. Again, this is perfect for small spaces, and produces sound good enough to enhance any video game or movie experience. You can find out more about the Sound Stand over on the VIZIO website.
