Vampyr Shines Again with a Brand New Trailer

Vampyr

Vampyr is the next game from DontNod Entertainment, creators of Life is Strange, and proposes quite a change of tune.

It’s a doctor’s duty to care and look after his patients, no matter the circumstances. For doctor Jonathan Reid, the main protagonist of Vampyr, things are always a tad more complicated. There’s always a blurry line too dangerous to cross, too luring to break. Because next to the intention to heal his victims, there’s always the dormant desire of feeding on them. That’s the main premise of the next DontNod title, Vampyr, an action RPG that distances itself quite a lot from what we have seen so far from the studio.

Watch – Vampyr: Darkness Within Trailer

The last trailer offers a little bit more of insight into the main protagonist and plunges us directly into story mode. We are back in late Victorian times, walking around a creepy version of London that happens to nurture a Spanish Flu epidemic. The people are talking about a mysterious Doctor Reid. A war doctor, they say, that works relentlessly to help everyone in the need of medical assistance. Little do these people know that under all that compassion and good manners there’s also another type of necessity. Because, after all, mister Reid is a vampire. And he harbors a darkness within…

If this lures you enough, you should definitely check the gameplay trailer they pulled out at Gamescom this year.

From Life is Strange to Vampyr

You may think that the world of today does not lack stories on vampires and bloodsuckers. They have impregnated games, films and general pop culture beyond count. And you may be right, after all. However, everything we have seen from this game oozes atmosphere and an interesting story line. Knowing the level of interactivity we enjoyed in Life is Strange there’re good reasons to believe Vampyr will no strive for less. That in combination with the action elements (there are different weapons and combat styles), the crafting, the dialogue options and the semi open world nature of that London make Vampyr an interesting game to track, at the very least.

We know that there are other vampires out there in the game and there is probably more to the narrative than the comings and going of Jonathan, his study of the victims – and the killings, of course. DontNod Entertainment has kept quiet about core details of their title so here at the Game Fanatics will be covering them as they surface.

Vampyr is coming in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A concrete date has yet to be released though. How are you liking this game already? Let us know in the comment section down below!
