Upcoming Games October 2016

For some, October is where the AAA season starts in all its splendor. Check our list of Upcoming Games and make your pick!

Summer was being pretty gentle with us and our wallets but October is taking the legacy from May and bringing some big hits. It’s not only the month when PlayStation released their much anticipated VR device. It’s also the beginning of the AAA season and you can expect plenty of famous titles every single week. We have compiled here our top 10 favorites so let’s check them out!

Mafia 3

Mafia 3

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: October 7

Mafia 3 seems to be much more than your typical crime game. The next installment of the series brings us to a fictionalized New Orleans during the 60s and promises great doses of action, a story fueled by betrayal and an unquenchable thirst for revenge. We’ll get into the skin of Lincoln Clay, a veteran from Vietnam, who comes back to a corrupted metropolis only to discover that old allies have turned to be nasty foes. In a world where sides change rapidly, choosing your associates carefully will tip the balance. Because, as the mantra of the game goes, “family ain’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for.”

Paper Mario: Color Splash

Color Splash

Platforms: Wii U
Release Date: October 13

We jump into colorful horizons here with Nintendo’s next action-adventure game. Paper Mario: Color Splash recovers the gameplay dynamics of Sticker Star and plunges us in an amusing world where we’ll swing the Paint Hammer with style. Loyal to the entertainment values of Nintendo, Color Splash is about painting the colorless element of the environment (characters included), in order to progress in the story. Expect a fair amount of levels and hooking settings – all of that topped with the likes of Mario and Co., of course.

Gears of War 4

Gears of War 4

Platforms: PC, Xbox One
Release Date: October 11

Everything we have seen from Gears of War 4 tells us that the fourth title in the saga will surely live up to expectations. Presented as a sequel, Gears of War 4 seems to share all the good things that have made the series great – plus venturing into a whole new narrative dimension. The game covers a single night span and takes us on an almost suicide mission lead by JD, Marcus Fenix’s son, who’s accompanied by two of his friends, Del and Kait. Everything will start with the gruesome attack on a settlement, the arrival of these creatures being the beginning of something even nastier.

Gears of War 4 arrives with a luring multiplayer mode and it’s part of the Play Anywhere program, allowing gaming buddies to play cross-platforms.

Rez Infinite

Rez Infinite

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR
Release Date: October 13

Accompanying the release of the PlayStation VR device comes a port of the original Rez for both PS4 and PS VR, revamped and suited for our current gaming generation. If you played the original psychodelic rail-shooter title Rez, then you will enjoy this one. It comes with full VR support (although you can also play it on the non-VR console) plus additional new content, all of that done by members of the original development team.

Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: October 21

Battlefield 1 embraces a new take and opts for a WW1 setting, distancing themselves from their predecessor’s trend. Also, setting up a new standard for EA, whose last WW1 historical game came in 1994, with Wings of Glory. Battlefield 1 is all about teamwork and promises a pretty authentic experience. There are eight different classes to choose from, a whole weaponry line-up and the possibility of changing pace by taking control of tanks, trucks, aircrafts, battleships, zeppelins as well as horses. The game is launching with 9 different maps and 6 modes to choose from – and the multiplayer campaigns will host up to 64 players!

Civilization 6

Civilization 6

Platforms: PC
Release Date: October 21

Civilization 6 does not need a letter of introduction either, does it. It comes full-on and ready to beat all the sales records of the previous one. All turn-based strategists and enthusiasts will enjoy the new perks that this title brings. Cities will expand across the map, tech and cultural research will unlock new potential and competing leaders will have their own agendas, to name but a few. Even with the features added to the formula, Civilization 6 maintains its classic set up. It welcomes both veterans and rookies to the insatiable quest of becoming the Ruler of the World.

World of Final Fantasy

World of Final Fantasy

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita
Release Date: October 25

World of Final Fantasy is Square Enix attempt at re-examining the saga at the same time they allow new players to delve into it. How? With the creation of a spin-off to commemorate what are almost thirty years of Final Fantasy stories populating the world. This new title focus all its ingredients in a sort of fan-service that won’t leave you indifferent. If you know some of the titles, you’ll feel like at home. And if you do not know what this is all about, you’ll surely find guide in the adventures of the two protagonists. Special attention deserves the artistic direction of the game and it’s combination of chibi and adult styles.

Dark Souls 3 – Ashes of Ariandel DLC

Ashes of Ariandel

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: October 25

While not being necessarily a brand new game, we could not exclude the first DLC of Dark Souls 3 here. FromSoftware wants to take us to a cold world where snow keeps on falling, as opposed to the pale lights of Lothric. This DLC brings extra hours of gameplay that include 15 new weapons and 4 new armor sets, 4 new sorceries, miracles and pyromancies, a new PvP map called Hollow Arena and two new, nightmare-inducing bosses.

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: October 28

We’ll need to wait until the end of the month to test the wonders of the next Titanfall game. Titanfall 2 brings a pretty luring feature: a stand-alone single player campaign. Respawn Entertainment took note of the community request for the game and they are delivering something extra on top of their typical multiplayer mode. We hope to see big things of this story, which directly from the creators of Call of Duty. The last cinematic trailer certainly looks awesome!

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition

Skyrim

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: October 28

We finish out list with the Skyrim Special Edition – aka, remastered version of the classic. What can you expect from this one? A game that has been tuned for the current gen consoles with better and enhanced effects, as well as a dynamic depth of field. The pack comes with the original game plus all the DLC that Bethesda has released until now: Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn. The downside: that the almighty power of the mod creation is only coming for the PC and Xbox versions, ditching PlayStation 4 support for them. Still, a pretty nice addition to your collection if you did not play it until now or are eager to plunge again into the Elder Scrolls universe.

And you, what games are you playing in October? Are you playing any of these or have you a different agenda? Are you getting already Sony’s VR device already? Let us know in the comment section down below and happy gaming!
