May is one of those “f*ck up your wallet” months that happen every now and then, satisfying our gaming frenzies at the same time they delve into our money reserves. Only one month away from E3, the next four weeks bring a little bit of everything for everyone. There’s plenty of big titles for all gaming tastes and inclinations, and also some smaller jewels.

We have summarized here the hottest releases that are coming in May for you – make your pick!

Battleborn is the new next-gen baby of Gearbox Software, parents of the Borderlands series. It received the label of “hero shooter” and it adds to the list of first-person shooter kind of MOBA games that bring some old good elements of the genre plus tons of action and a campaign mode, which can be played solo or co-operately with another four heroes.

Superhot

Superhot - Upcoming Game May 2016
Superhot, a minimalist shooter.

Platforms: Xbox One
Release Date: May 3

While not being strictly a new game (the PC version is already around the stores since February), the release of Superhot for Xbox One brings another opportunity to look at this curious, and polygonal,  title. Created by Superhot Team, the game follows the principles of traditional first-person shooters but incorporating a new mechanic. Time while we play only progresses when our character moves, which makes the combat situations close to a strategy-based kind of game.

Do not search for crazy environments or hyper-realistic characters. Superhot relies in the “less is more” motto, with minimalist colors and spaces that certainly create an style of their own.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4 - Upcoming Game May 2016
Uncharted 4, the last story to be told about Drake and his team of adventurers.

Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release Date: May 10

[button type=”link” link=”http://amzn.to/23gT3Zb” variation=”btn-success” target=”blank”]Buy Uncharted 4 on Amazon[/button]

Probably one of the most highly-awaited titles of this year. Developed by Naughty Dog, Uncharted 4 is the next and final installment of the Uncharted series that feature the charismatic Nathan Drake as protagonist. Set several years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, the new title will see the resurgence of Drake as a fortune hunter. Together with his brother Sam and his team of everlasting companions, Drake will embark in his greatest adventure yet. If you have been following all the trailers to date, you know its drills: a compelling narrative, amazing cut-scenes and tons of humor. It even has a fabled pirate treasure!

Doom 4

Doom 4 - Upcoming Game May 2016
Doom 4, welcome back to hell.

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: May 13

[button type=”link” link=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M3D8IYM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00M3D8IYM&linkCode=as2&tag=thegamfan08-20&linkId=NTAZSWUX7BMSGEYH” variation=”btn-success” target=”blank”]Buy Doom 4 on Amazon[/button]

Announced with all due honor during the latest E3 conference, Doom 4 came back to life with a clear idea in mind: to bring back the spirit of the series. Developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, it’s the latest reboot of the Doom franchise, which had been somehow stranded since the release of Doom 3 in 2004. Forget about a crazy storyline and emotional characters. Doom 4 is about rocking the abyss with next-gen weapons and spread bloody havoc amidst the evil masses of demons.

Homefront: The Revolution

Homefront: The Revolution - Upcoming Game May 2016
Homefront: The Revolution brings us to a dirty dystopian world.

The sequel of Homefront brings the old good vibe of the first title plus a sandbox world with multiple districts to explore. The game places us in a dystopian reality where the North Korean forces have launched a full scale invasion over the United States. Packed with high doses of action, we will witness a rebellion brewing in the streets of Philadelphia and follow the steps of the youngest member of that resistance, Ethan “Birdy” Brady. There’s a lot of shooting, a lot of crafting and also a multiplayer co-op mode for four players.

Total War: Warhammer

Total War: Warhammer - Upcoming Game May 2016
Total War: Warhammer is the 10th installment in the Total War series.

Platforms: PC
Release Date: May 24

[button type=”link” link=”http://amzn.to/1rKhqmR” variation=”btn-success” target=”blank”]Buy Total War: Warhammer on Amazon[/button]

What happens when you mix the turn-based, real-time strategy pulse of the Total War series with the lore and beats of a fantasy world? That Total War: Warhammer appears on the horizon, making fans of both series tingle of joy. Developed by Creative Assembly and published by SEGA, Total War: Warhammer will delve into the places and characters of the Warhammer universe while providing the systems and mechanics that have always worked for them. It has both a single players campaign as well as a multiplayer option.

Overwatch

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: May 24

[button type=”link” link=http://amzn.to/1pVK3vs” variation=”btn-success” target=”blank”]Buy Overwatch on Amazon[/button]

Overwatch is Blizzard’s next-gen, multiplayer first-person shooter (first one since the cancelled Starcraft: Ghost) and comes with its own style to a competitive world that already oozes with such titles. The game relies on super-hero like characters with unique abilities and roles that can engage in three different modes so far: Assault, Escort and Control. Each encounter is a 6v6 match that happens on maps based in hyper-styled versions of the real world.

Fallout 4: Far Harbor DLC

Far Harbor - Upcoming Game May 2016
Far Harbor has still to release a date.

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: May (date to be confirmed)

We include Far Harbor in the list since the DLC will be mainly narrative-driven and thus, will offer a far bigger gaming experience than its predecessors, probably hitting several hours of gameplay. It’s the third of the first batch of DLC add-ons pulled out by Bethesda for Fallout 4 and there’s still a lot of mystery around it. We only know that we will sail off the coast of Maine to a dark island per request of Nick Valentine, our charismatic synth companion. What awaits there is a growing conflict between a secret colony of synths, the Children of Atom group (already seen in Fallout 3) and the local townspeople.

Getting Ready for June

All things considered, gamer worldwide can say that this is spring is being quite prolific. On top of all these releases, there are some titles that are already in the pipeline for June, such as the new Mirror’s Edge, No Man’s SkyThe Technomancer and Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps, to name but a few. So there are definitely big things happening in the near future, for the general “dismay” of our wallets and free time.

And you, which titles are you playing this month? Looking forward for a game we have not mentioned? Let us know!
