Twitter to Livestream ESL and DreamHack eSports Tournaments

Twitter livestream

The hectic world of eSports is expanding year after year. Bigger tournaments equal to bigger audiences and naturally this creates an opportunity train many companies are very eager to take. Twitch has been popularly regarded as one of the main broadcasting strongholds to go and watch some pro gaming events – but the official list has just expanded. That new kid in town is Twitter.

Twitter Livestreaming in a Nutshell

The social media channel has just landed a nice partnership with ESL and DreamHack. The deal grants Twitter the rights to livestream some of the biggest eSports events of 2017. As of now, these include ESL One, DreamHack, and Intel Extreme Masters tournaments – a total of 15 big events, Twitter has announced. On top of that, the platform will also host a special weekly ESL show featuring exclusive highlights and behind-the-scenes footage.

The announcement comes just a couple of days before the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice event. It’s starting on March 4 and will be the first tournament to receive the treatment from Twitter. This is by no means the first live-streaming enterprise for the social media giant, but it’s certainly their foothold in the electronic sports business. We’ll need to see how fruitful these seeds are, but it seems that the world of eSports got itself another powerful partner.
