Top 5 Games Fanatics Are Looking Forward To (October 2011)

We conducted a survey a few days back asking what games you, our readers, are looking forward to most in the month of October. The results did surprise us, especially what took the number 1 spot! Read on after the break for the list accompanied by trailers of the games.

5. Spider-Man: Edge of Time

Spider-Man: Edge of Time, being the followup to the awesome Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, has some big shoes to fill. Luckily, from the looks of things, Edge of Time will do just fine. Bringing together Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099, Edge of Time will feature all-new[pullquote_right]A hero has no future, if he has no past.[/pullquote_right] “cause-and-effect” gameplay, where players will see how the immediate and sometimes unexpected effects of their actions as one Spider-Man changes the timeline of the other Spider-Man.

Set for a Fall 2011 release on nearly all platforms, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, like its predecessor, looks like how super-hero games should be.

4. Rage (tie)

There’s not really a whole lot more I can say about Rage, other than having gotten to play the actual product for an hour, it has me really excited to play the game when it comes out. I have a feeling I can find myself getting lost in it for days at a time, in much the same way I found myself lost in the world of Grand Theft Auto IV or Red Dead Redemption. id has shown me that they’ve really fleshed out the game world and made it fun, challenging, and beautiful.

Developed by id Software and published by  Softworks, Rage is coming to  and  on October 4th in the United States and October 7th in Europe.

4. Batman: Arkham City (tie)

Despite PC setbacks, the Dark Knight returns in the long anticipated sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. Take control of the caped crusader himself and explore the sprawling area that is now Arkham city, fighting your way through many of Batman’s most iconic enemies. This game promises to expand on the fantastic gameplay that made Arkham Asylum the award winning game it was, all set in one of the most popular comic universes of all time.

3. NBA 2K12

After the NBA 2K11 release, we asked ourselves what  would do next. Well, after playing the demo for  and getting a full hands-on at E3, we finally have an answer.

To start off, the presentation in  has gotten better, A LOT better. The player introductions, match-up comparisons, and pre-game rituals all look more amazing than before. All of this is great, but what really caught our eye were the pre-game highlights. Watching the snippets of the team’s star player made us really feel like we were actually watching ESPN.

2K Sports has done an incredible job with the improvements in this installment, and we are definitely looking forward to reviewing it for you guys.

2. Battlefield 3

Taking a very close second place in our survey is the syrupy-sweet baby of EA and Dice, Battlefield 3. Not much needs to be said about this game, amazing graphics (so much so that Nvidia and AMD had to issue special driver updates) great gameplay, and, one thing everyone is excited about but not ballsy enough to say, a game that is poised to truly challenge Call of Duty.

Below is a simple teaser featuring Jay-Z’s 99 Problems. Personally, we’ve seen better.

Battlefiled 3 is set to release on October 25th.

1. PAYDAY: The Heist

And here we are at the number 1. Now, we played this game at E3 and I remember remarking to @Doc_Gamer that this was going to be a sleeper hit, and he agreed.

PAYDAY: The Heist is a downloadable game intending to deliver a unique spin on the  genre. With six heists available from launch, the non-scripted enemy behaviour makes every heist unique. The fast paced co-op gameplay coupled with factors such as hostage trading makes this game incredibly fun to play.

The game is set for release on October 4, on  and .

That does it for this month’s top 5. Any surprises? Feel free to drop your comments below!
