Top 5 Console Games Played on the iPhone

Even though the iPhone has no problem reaching out to the casual gamer audience, some people still aren’t satisfied with the device or the lack of “real” games. While we would certainly invite you to extrapolate on what you feel constitutes a “real” game, if what you mean is that there aren’t any console-quality games, well, we have news for you. There are quite a few. We’ve touched on great mobile games before such as Shadowgun, and even our favorite Android apps for gamers, now we bring you an iOS-specific list.

It wasn’t too long ago that no one really knew what to do with mobile hardware so you had what equated to carnival games with decent enough varnish – Angry Birds, anyone? However, developers have really gotten to know the hardware and many of your favorite console games you grew up with can now be found on the smartphone. All you need is a smartphone and some familiarity with Internet Service Providers and you could be connected to the web, downloading and playing some great games.

Seriously, make sure your connection can handle it because of some of these are pretty big.

1. Another Word – 20th Anniversary by Bulkypix – $4.99

Those of you who owned a Super Nintendo back in the day might remember this cult classic. As a child prodigy, you are hurtled through space to a hostile alien world. Using your wits, the environment and reaction time, you must navigate this harsh alien world in an attempt to survive your new home.

2. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars by Rockstar Games – $9.99

This classic from the Nintendo DS library makes its jump the smartphone crowd. As Huang Lee, you are tasked with delivering an ancient sword to your Uncle Kenny. As with most things in the GTA world, the game can be either as long or short as you make it and it’s not the destination that matters but how you
get there.

3. STREET FIGHTER IV by CAPCOM – $4.99

The arcade classic comes straight to the smartphone and is no worse for wear despite the difference in hardware. Players will have access to 14 fighters and 11 different environments with access to a full move set for each character. Perfect for diehard fans and those just getting to know the franchise.

4. TETRIS by Electronic Arts – $0.99

You can’t beat Tetris no matter how hard you try and this stalwart mainstay proves that even the simplest concept for a game can stand the test of time. This version comes with revamped graphics, remastered sound and all the classic gameplay you’ve come to know and love.

5. ZOOKEEPER DX Touch Edition by KITERETSU INC. – $0.99

You played it on the Nintendo DS and now you can finally enjoy it on the iPhone. Anyone familiar with the casual puzzle games like Bejeweled will instantly remember how to play this console classic. Move tiles with animals on them to match them up and meet level requirements for a deceptively challenging
experience.

And those are just a few. So get on the iPhone and relive your childhood with an entire plethora of console games just waiting to be rediscovered.
